Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Air Ambulance Service.

Enda Kenny

Question:

190 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Health, arising from the annual report on ambulance and patient transport services for the year ended 31 December 1993, and in respect of the Western Health Board, the cost of helicopter flights to and from all offshore islands in each of the years, 1991 to 1993; the total cost of all hospital transfers in each case; and the departmental Vote from which such costs were paid.

An arrangement is in place whereby the Air Corps provides air ambulance transport to health boards for emergency cases. No charge is made to health boards for this service which is met from within the Vote of the Department of Defence. I am informed that helicopter ambulance services from Western Health Board offshore islands for the years 1991, 1992 and 1993 were carried out by the Air Corps.
