Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - James Connolly, Blanchardstown (Dublin) Special School.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

227 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the proposals, if any, she has to provide permanent classroom accommodation for the 13 autistic children currently attending the James Connolly special school, Blanchardstown, Dublin; if her attention has been drawn to the condition of the present accommodation; if her attention has been further drawn to the fact that a one-year temporary sanction was given for the use of the existing premises in 1990 and that, despite numerous requests, no indication has yet been given as to when proper accommodation will be provided; if she will grant such approval as a matter of urgency; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the need for new classroom accommodation for the pupils attending James Connolly special school in Blanchardstown.

This matter is under active consideration within my Department and my officials have been discussing the matter with the patron of the school, the Eastern Health Board. I will advise the Deputy when a decision has been made.
