Vol. 443 No. 9

Written Answers. - Army Pension.

Bernard Allen

Question:

53 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork who applied for a military pension in August 1993, and had a preliminary medical examination on 15 April 1994, has still not received a decision; and the reason this process has taken so long.

The person in question was discharged from the Defence Forces at his own request in May, 1989. In August, 1993 he applied for a disability pension under the Army Pensions Acts. His case has been referred to the Army Pensions Board, which is the statutory body appointed under those Acts to investigate and report on such cases. He attended before the board in April 1994 and the case is still being processed by the board.

When the report of the board has been received, the matter will be dealt with promptly.
