Vol. 443 No. 9

Written Answers. - EU Funding.

Paul Bradford

Question:

54 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Marine if the EU funding has now been secured to provide equipment for the EU pilot project on fishing vessel satellite monitoring.

At a meeting of the Fisheries Management Committee in Brussels last week, Commission proposals for the funding of pilot satellite monitoring projects were agreed unanimously by member states. It is expected that the decision will be formally adopted by the Commission within the next two weeks.

Under the decision Ireland is being allocated 751,600 ECU of the total EU budget of 10 million ECU provided for satellite pilot projects. Ireland's allocation should adequately cover all costs, including capital and operational costs associated with the project.
