Vol. 444 No. 2

Written Answers. - Withdrawal of Teaching Post.

Phil Hogan

Question:

65 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education if she will rescind the decision to withdraw a teaching post from Clonegal primary school, County Carlow; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment of Clonegal national school on 30 September 1993 was 153 pupils which warrants a staffing in the 1994-95 school year of a principal and four assistants.

The fifth assistant's post will be suppressed at the end of the current school year. The teacher in question has been placed on the diocesan panel for redeployment.
