Vol. 444 No. 3

Written Answers. - Scam Marketing Companies.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

68 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he intends to bring forward legislation on scam marketing companies locating in Ireland following recent comments by the Director of Consumer Affairs.

I have just received preliminary findings of investigations currently being undertaken by the Director of Consumer Affairs into alleged dubious practices by a very small number of marketing of financial services companies based in Ireland.

I am informed that their activities are aimed wholly or principally at consumers abroad. These cases gave rise to a wide range of legal and other issues. I shall be keeping the situation under review to determine what action is deemed necessary.
