Vol. 444 No. 3

Written Answers. - Air Ambulance Services.

Enda Kenny

Question:

73 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Defence the charge applicable to his Departmental Estimate Vote in respect of helicopter ambulance services in respect of Western Health Board offshore island calls for each of the years 1991 to 1993; the amount involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Department of Defence does not charge health boards for air ambulance services carried out by the Air Corps.

The Air Corps responded to seven calls from offshore islands in the Western Health Board area in 1991, seven in 1992 and 18 in 1993. The cost to the Department of carrying out those missions is estimated at about £166,000.
