Question:111 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the plans, if any, he has to introduce some form of financial assistance for the preservation of thatched houses.

Tuigtear dom go bhfuil scéim i bhfeidhm ag an Roinn Comhshaoil faoina gcuirtear deontas uasta de £2,000 (£3,000 ar oileáin) ar fáil d'iarratasóirí cáilithe chun díon tuí a athnuachan nó a dheisiú. Tá scéim den chineál céanna i bhfeidhm ag mo Roinn féin laistigh de na limistéir Ghaeltachta faoin n-íoctar deontas uasta £2,300 (£3,450 ar oileáin Ghaeltachta) d'iarratasóirí cáilithe.
The National Heritage Council has also grant aided thatched houses in the interest of preserving vernacular architecture and the traditional craft of thatching. The Council is currently working on the development of a policy in this matter which would, inter alia, set a basis on which future applications for thatching grants would be assessed.
