Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Authority Allocations.

Noel Ahern

Question:

241 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the distribution to local authorities from the special £5 million fund from the tax amnesty as announced in the 1994 budget; the amount given to each local authority; the basis on which the allocations were made; if local authorities were excluded from the allocation; and, if so, the reasons for each such exclusion. [282/94]

Details of the additional amounts allocated to local authorities for the retirement of local authority debt are set out in the following table. The authorities concerned have been informed that these grants are to be applied to assist in the elimination of debit balances on their revenue accounts and may not be used to fund expenditure requirements in 1994. Individual allocations had regard to the level of accumulated deficits. As both Dublin and Limerick Corporations do not avail of all sources of local income, it was considered inappropriate to consider either of these authorities for additional financial assistance of this kind.
