87 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if it is Department policy to encourage teachers to be vaccinated against hepatitis A in view of the serious nature of this infection; and if so, if the vaccination is provided free under the Health and Welfare at Work (Biological Agents) Regulations 1994. The issue of transmission of infections generally in schools, including what guidance may be provided to schools, is being considered in conjunction with the Department of Health. The specific issue raised by the Deputy in the question will be given consideration in that context.
