24 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Defence if a request has been received for Irish personnel to participate in a UN monitoring force in Haiti; if it is intended to accede to any such request; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2616/94]

Minister for Defence (Mr. Andrews)

A request was received from the United Nations in September last for two officers to serve as observers with the advance team of the United Nations Mission in Haiti. This request was acceded to and on 21 September two officers took up duty with the mission.
