Vol. 447 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Community Employment Programme.

Phil Hogan

Question:

157 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if participants on the community employment programme will be allowed to participate for more than one year on that particular scheme; if he is considering making changes to allow this to take place in 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3406/94]

Participants on Community Employment may be reengaged by the sponsors of their projects for a second year, with the agreement of FÁS, in the following circumstances:

—in cases where they are "key" participants, i.e., where their continued participation on the project is required to undertake core administrative or specialist work;

—where they would benefit from continued participation in terms of additional training and development;

—in cases when no other suitable, eligible participants are available.

Special provision is made for participants aged 45 and upwards and unemployed for more than three years. They may be retained on Community Employment for up to three years.
