Vol. 447 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - School Transport.

Noel Davern

Question:

120 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Education the reason persons (details supplied) in County Tipperary cannot travel on the later school bus service to Ballymacarbry national school in County Tipperary; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3548/94]

The vehicle in question operates two trips to the national school involved. Due to loading problems on the second trip, Bus Éireann, my Department's agent in the operation of the school transport scheme, had no option but to select three children for transfer to the earlier trip. The three children were chosen because they belong to the one family. Any other choice would have involved either children from more than one family, or the splitting up of a family.

Inquiries in regard to the transport timetable for the children in question show that the times are as follows:

Morning pick-up

8.50 a.m. formerly 9.20 a.m.

Drop-off at school

9.00 a.m.

Evening pick-up

3.30 p.m.

Evening drop-off

3.50 p.m. formerly 3.20 p.m.

The travelling and waiting time here is one hour and ten minutes a day. This is considered to be a reasonable standard of service in the context of the scheme, as operated on a country-wide basis. However, my Department will undertake a further review of this case and the results of the review will be communicated to the Deputy.
