Vol. 448 No. 1

Written Answers. - Changes in Taxation.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

41 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Finance the options for taxation, allowances and tax bands in the context of the forthcoming referendum on divorce; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1565/95]

I can assure the Deputy that all legislation in relation to income tax, capital gains tax, capital acquisitions, tax, probate tax and stamp duty is being reviewed to determine what changes would be necessary in the event of a Constitutional change allowing for divorce.

The Deputy will appreciate that it is not possible for changes in taxation law to precede changes in the general law. However, the Government's Programme of Renewal has promised that in advance of the divorce Referendum a comprehensive paper will be published indicating the text of the amendment proposed by Government, and addressing a number of issues, including taxation.
