Vol. 448 No. 1

Written Answers. - Economic and Monetary Union.

Ivor Callely

Question:

62 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the European member states whose deficits have been judged by the European Commission and Ecofin Council to meet the criteria of the European Union for economic and monetary union. [1655/95]

Based on recommendations from the European Commission, in November 1994 the ECOFIN Council decided that Ireland and Luxembourg do not have an excessive deficit, as defined in the Treaty on European Union and, accordingly, meets the budgetary performance criteria for economic and monetary union.
