Vol. 448 No. 1

Written Answers. - Reopening of Cross-Border Roads.

Brendan Smith

Question:

82 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Environment when he will allocate additional funds to Cavan County Council in respect of the reopening of cross-Border roads which were closed; if he will address this issue urgently in view of the need to make these routes accessible to traffic without further delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1666/95]

Necessary works by Cavan County Council to secure the reopening of six of the seven cross-Border roads closed in its area were completed late last year. My Department paid a grant of £121,000 to the Council to meet in full the approved cost of these works.

The works required to reopen the N3 between Cavan and Enniskillen, including the replacement of Aghalane Bridge, are being assessed by the National Roads Authority in consultation with the Northern Ireland authorities. The funding of works to be undertaken in Cavan is a matter in this case for the NRA.
