Vol. 448 No. 2

Written Answers. - Deposits Held by Telecom Éireann.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

127 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the deposits held by Telecom Éireann from business for each of the years 1991 to 1994. [1772/95]

The issue of the size of deposits, if any, held by Telecom Éireann in respect of any customer or group of customers, is a day-to-day matter for Telecom Éireann. Under section 33 (3) of the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983, I am precluded from interfering in day-to-day affairs of the company. The Deputy may recall that, in February last, Telecom Éireann announced that it would refund deposits to business users who opted to pay by direct debit.
