101 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Education the number of posts occupied on a temporary basis within Mayo vocational education committee; the length of time each of these positions have been held on a temporary basis; and when it is proposed to make the positions permanent. [1748/95]

There are six whole time equivalent clerical and administrative posts and 7.59 whole time equivalent maintenance posts held on a temporary basis within Mayo vocational education committee.

Six administrative positions at grade 2 level are being held in a temporary capacity from July, 1989, January, 1991, February, 1992, December, 1992, September, 1994 (two positions) respectively.

A request has recently been received from the chief executive officer of County Mayo vocational education committee requesting that five of the temporary administrative staff be appointed on a permanent basis. Officials in my Department are currently considering this request.

The majority of the temporary maintenance posts are part time posts based in the vocational schools. These posts are temporary by nature and it is not proposed to convert them to permanent posts.
