Question:142 Mr. O'Dea asked the Minister for Justice when she will update the law relating to the sub judice rule as recommended by the Law Reform Commission in its report on contempt of court, LRC47-1994. [1951/95]
Written Answers. - Sub-judice Rule.
The Law Reform Commission Report on Contempt of Court was published in September, 1994. The report, which contains over seventy recommendations, including twenty on the sub-judice rule, followed on from the earlier publication by the Commission of a substantial Consultation Paper on the subject. The Commission's recommendations will require careful consideration in my Department and any legislative or other proposals which arise out of that consideration will be announced in the normal manner in due course.
