Vol. 448 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sunday Trading Report.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

180 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he has received the report on Sunday trading; and, if so, when he will publish it. [2131/95]

I await the submission of a study being undertaken by the Irish Productivity Centre in this regard, which I hope will be completed at an early stage. The study's terms of reference are to examine the implications of Sunday trading in the retail trades and in particular the implications for: (1) the level of employment; (2) the conditions of employment, including hours of work in the relevant sectors; (3) existing legislation on conditions of employment, hours of work and hours of trading; (4) Sunday trading patterns in other European countries; and (5) existing EU Directives now being transposed into national law and draft directives. I will consider the issue of publication when I receive the report.
