186 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total area under forestry in the country in each of the years 1970, 1980, 1990 and 1995; and the total area projected for the year 2000. [1888/95]

The area under forestry in the country in each of the years 1970, 1980, 1990 and 1995 is as follows: 1970, 300,000 hectares; 1980, 382,000 hectares; 1990, 471,000 hectares; 1995, 567,000 hectares (projected). Between 1996 and the year 2000, it is projected that a further 85,000 to 95,000 hectares will be added to the country's forest estate.
