Under the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983, An Post has been given delegated responsibility for the television licence fee collection system.
It is understood from An Post that the estimated percentage of unlicensed television sets in each of the years 1990 to 1994 is as set out hereunder:

In addition to these levels of evasion it should be understood that there is an element of hidden evasion arising from cases whereby a monochrome licence is purchased in respect of a premises in which there is a colour television set.
