Vol. 448 No. 4

Written Answers. - Theatre Funding.

Tony Killeen

Question:

100 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the current position regarding funding of the Abbey Theatre; and the role of An Chomhairle Ealaíon in its financial affairs. [2244/95]

At present the grant for the National Theatre Society, the Abbey and Peacock Theatres, is provided by An Chomhairle Ealaíon and I understand that £2.299 million was paid in 1994. As an exceptional once off measure my Department paid a special grant of £300,000 to the society in December 1994 to help make good a capital deficit which had accumulated over many years.
