Question:

120 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount of money paid by self-employed people, including farmers, under the PRSI social insurance scheme since 1988. [2290/95]

PRSI for the self-employed was introduced with effect from 6 April 1988. The social insurance element of the PRSI rate was set at 3 per cent for the 1988-89 tax year, at 4 per cent for the 1989-90 tax year and at 5 per cent for the 1990-91 and subsequent tax years. The amount paid into the Social Insurance Fund by self-employed people, including farmers, for the years 1988 to 1994 is set out hereunder.
