Vol. 448 No. 5

Written Answers. - Unpaid Agricultural Rates.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

36 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount outstanding in uncollected agricultural rates; the guidelines, if any, that have been issued by his Department to local authorities regarding the collection of such outstanding sums; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2196/95]

The level of unpaid agricultural rates in respect of 1982 and earlier years was £19.9 million at 31 December 1987 and is unlikely to have changed substantially since then. It is a matter for each local authority to decide what action, if any, can be taken at this stage to collect outstanding amounts.
