Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Telecommunications in Island Schools.

Robert Molloy

Question:

157 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education the progress, if any, which has been made to install telecommunications facilities to all of the island schools to include telephones, fax facilities, modems, computers and printers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2746/95]

The position is that a total of 12 primary schools, located on islands in counties Galway, Cork and Donegal applied for inclusion in the arrangements which I made for the provision of telephones, fax facilities, modems, computers and printers. To date equipment has been installed in all the schools concerned except the school located on Tory Island.

In the case of the school on Tory, telephone and fax facilities have been installed. Efforts to install the computer equipment have so far been frustrated by adverse weather conditions. However, the computer supplier is on standby to install the computer equipment at the earliest opportunity.
