Vol. 448 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Resources.

Ivor Callely

Question:

42 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the number and description of all requests for additional personnel and motor vehicles from gardaí in the five Dublin metropolitan divisions over the past 12 weeks; if such requests were approved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2795/95]

The allocation of Garda manpower and resources to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. I understand that there was one request for an additional post at one Garda station in the DMA North Division and that this is being considered. So that the Deputy will not misunderstand the situation, however, requests for permanent additions to personnel or other resources represent only part of the picture. There were several requests for the temporary allocation of resources to deal with particular situations and, according to the information available to me, these were met. Some of these allocations — the term "loan" is used in the Garda report — are still in place.
