Vol. 448 No. 7

Written Answers. - Foreign Students' Accommodation.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

83 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if his attention has been drawn to the concerns that foreign language students are being offered overcrowded and substandard accommodation in private houses; the plans, if any, he has to establish a national register of accommodation providers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2915/95]

No major concerns in relation to the nature and standard of the accommodation offered to foreign language students have been brought to my attention. This is primarily a matter for the relevant colleges or schools which organise such accommodation. I have no direct function in the matter.

Under existing tourism regulations, Bord Fáilte maintains a register and listing of officially approved tourist accommodation which is publicised through the board's publications and offices and the national network of tourist information offices operated by the regional tourism organisations.
