Vol. 448 No. 8

Written Answers. - Kilmacow (Kilkenny) Housing Association.

Liam Aylward

Question:

55 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason an application by the Kilmacow voluntary housing association in County Kilkenny for assistance from the scheme for grants to voluntary organisations has been refused. [2960/95]

In 1994 the Government allocated a total of £1.533 million for the scheme of grants to voluntary organisations. This scheme provides grants to help voluntary organisations working with disadvantaged groups or in disadvantaged areas.

The number of applications received in 1994 was in the region of 1,106 of which 311 were successful. I am sure the Deputy will appreciate that with such a large number of applications it was only possible to fund a limited number.
The organisation in question should apply for funding under the 1995 scheme of grants to voluntary organisations, details of which will be advertised shortly.
