Vol. 449 No. 2

Written Answers. - STIAC Report.

Michael Ahern

Question:

22 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he has received the STIAC report; and, if so, when he will publish the report. [3169/95]

I received the report of the Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council on 12 January.

The report is detailed and comprehensive, covering a wide range of issues. It contains some 150 recommendations covering STI capability in enterprises, the role of knowledge and skills, State support services for science and technology, information and technology transfer and awareness of STI. In particular the report calls for major structural changes in the way the national STI effort is organised.

I am naturally anxious that the Government be able to respond as quickly as possible to the STIAC report. I am currently examining the best type of mechanism to achieve this end. When I have cleared my proposals with my colleagues, I intend to publish the STIAC report — probably in the next four to six weeks.
