Vol. 449 No. 2

Written Answers. - Brucellosis Eradication Scheme.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

71 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if a supplementary income will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary whose herd is being depopulated; the value of the grant available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3400/95]

In a brucellosis test carried out on the herd of the person named on 20 January last 13 animals were found to be reactors. Five of these were slaughtered on 26 January and eight on 2 February. It has now been agreed by the herdowner and the local district veterinary office that the herd will be depopulated this week. Therefore the person named will be entitled to both reactor and depopulation grants under the brucellosis eradication scheme.

All reactor grants payable on dairy herd disease breakdowns are based on the national average milk yield of the herd in question. The amount of grants due to the herdowner will be calculated when a certificate of the amount of milk suplied to the creamery in the previous year is provided by the herdowner to the district veterinary office. The herdowner must also provide a tax clearance certificate to the district veterinary office as the potential grant payment could amount to more than the threshold of £5,000. A disinfection certificate is also a requirement.

The payment of income supplement does not arise in this case as depopulation grants are payable.
