Vol. 449 No. 2

Written Answers. - Farm Improvement Scheme.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

72 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of people who availed of the farm improvement scheme in the last full year for which figures are available; the number and percentage of such applications that pertained to pollution control; the meaning of pollution control; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3425/95]

A total of 3,547 farm plans were recieved by my Department under this scheme in 1994. The assessment of these applications will not be completed for some time. Assessment of the 1990-93 figures would suggest that over 90 per cent of all applications include provisions for pollution control work as part of the farm plan. Pollution control represents about 95 per cent of the work under the plans.

For the purposes of the various schemes pollution control includes: winter housing and fodder management for livestock; effluent and waste storage including pumping and spreading equipment.
