Vol. 449 No. 3

Written Answers. - Restructuring Scheme.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

26 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the changes, if any, he proposes to the present restructuring scheme to enable small producers who purchased extra quota under earlier restructuring schemes to qualify for the next subsidy available under the present restructuring scheme. [3481/95]

I have already announced that a subsidy will be provided to subsidise the purchaser of milk quota by smaller scale producers under the 1995 milk quota restructuring scheme. The total amount of funding set aside for this purpose is £6 million.

The eligibility criteria for subsidy under the 1994-1995 milk quota restructuring scheme, were set by the EU Commission when the scheme was being negotiated last year.

I have already raised with Commissioner Fischler the question of making these criteria more flexible for the 1995-1996 scheme. I intend to pursue this in the coming weeks.
