50 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will provide funding under his Department's Tourism Operational Programme for an extension of the Erne navigation southwards from Belturbet to Killeshandra and Killykeen, County Cavan, in view of the substantial economic and tourist potential of the project. I share the Deputy's view of the potential of this project, but due to the many competing demands on the limited financial resources available to me it has not been possible to include the extension of the Erne navigation southwards from Belturbet to Killeshandra and Killykeen, County Cavan on the list of projects for completion under the Tourism Operational Programme. However, this is a project which should be carried out subject to the availability of funds. I can assure the Deputy that should additional funding become available to me this project will be a high priority.
