Vol. 450 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sligo-Enniskillen Road.

Edward Nealon

Question:

80 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the importance of the Sligo-Enniskillen cross-Border road for the north-west; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that this road is below standard in view of its use and importance and in view of the increased volume of traffic following the ceasefire; if his attention has been further drawn to the fact that this road is not included in the operational programme for major road-works; in view of these factors and his recent discussions with Mr. Malcolm Moss, MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Northern Ireland Office, if he will make provision to ensure the upgrading of this vital link; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4781/95]

A meeting of the Anglo-Irish Conference which I attended on Tuesday, 14 February welcomed the inclusion of the Sligo-Enniskillen-Belfast route as part of the trans European multimodal network designated by the European Union. I have no function in the day-to-day administration and management of the work programme on national roads and in the allocation of funds for individual projects, both of which are the statutory responsibility of the National Roads Authority.
