Vol. 450 No. 3

Written Answers. - E1 Euro Route.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

38 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make representations to his Northern Ireland counterpart regarding the difficulties in connection with the lack of progress on the choosing of the actual route of the E1 Euro route as between Dundalk and Newry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2758/95]

A meeting of the Anglo Irish Conference which I attended on Tuesday 14 February 1995 noted the particular importance of the Dublin-Belfast route and considered the steps which might be necessary to improve that part of the route between Dundalk and Newry. It was agreed at the meeting that measures to improve the safety and capacity of this section of the existing route would be considered in the short term and that a joint study would be undertaken to identify longer-term solutions. Action is now being taken on foot of these agreements.
