Vol. 450 No. 3

Written Answers. - Drinking Water Quality.

Ivor Callely

Question:

55 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment Ireland's obligations under EC directives on the supply and quality of water to a private domestic dwelling; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4902/95]

Directive 80/778/EEC relating to the quality of water intended for human consumption set EU standards for drinking water. Ireland gave legal effect to this directive by way of the European Communities (Quality of Water Intended for Human Consumption) Regulations, 1988. These regulations prescribe quality standards and other procedures with respect to drinking water and place a duty on sanitary authorities to ensure that these requirements are observed.
