Vol. 450 No. 3

Written Answers. - Environmental Management Practices.

Pat Upton

Question:

54 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to put in place better environmental management practice in the public sector. [4998/95]

The Government has specifically undertaken that the public sector will lead the way in demonstrating best environmental management practice. My Department has already reviewed environmental management practices in the public sector in other countries and is currently developing guidelines for the adoption of better environmental management throughout the public sector. This will include formulating environmental management plans incorporating waste minimisation, green purchasing and recycling policies, as well as energy conservation measures which are already being promoted by the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications and the Irish Energy Centre.
