Vol. 450 No. 3

Written Answers. - Untaxed/Uninsured Motor Vehicles.

Ivor Callely

Question:

74 Mr. Calley asked the Minister for the Environment the measures, if any, he is considering to address untaxed and uninsured motor vehicles which are used on our roads on a regular basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4903/95]

Enforcement of the law in relation to untaxed and uninsured vehicles is a matter for the Garda.

Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994 provides, inter alia, for the detention of vehicles for motor tax or motor insurance offences in certain circumstances. I will be making regulations as soon as possible to give full effect to this section.
