Vol. 450 No. 3

Written Answers. - Provision of Passport Office.

Seán Haughey

Question:

76 Mr. Haughey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will provide an additional passport office on the northside of Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5172/95]

To relieve the workload on the Molesworth Street Passport Office and to facilitate the public, temporary passport offices were established at three locations in the Dublin suburbs in the period May to August, 1994. Since then a number of developments have helped to ease the pressures on the Molesworth Street Office. There has been a significant increase in the staff of the Office. The Passport Office in Cork is being enlarged and upgraded and will soon provide a full passport service for people in Munster. I am also currently looking at other ways of improving the passport service to the public and hope to be in a position to announce details of a new service very shortly.

In the light of these developments, I am satisfied that the Passport Office in Molesworth Street will be in a position to provide a good service to the public throughout this Summer without the need for suburban offices.
