Vol. 450 No. 3

Written Answers. - Speed Limits.

Ivor Callely

Question:

115 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received any submissions to review current speed limits; his views on the present speed limits; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5136/95]

The last general review of the levels of the different categories of speed limits was carried out in 1992 and revised limits were introduced from 30 July 1992. I have received no submissions seeking a further review of those limits and I have no proposals to initiate a review.

The review of speed limits applying to individual roads in their areas is a matter for each county council and county borough corporation, subject to the consent of the National Roads Authority in the case of proposals relating to national roads.
