Vol. 450 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Aided Voluntary Bodies.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

123 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment the voluntary bodies grant aided by his Department; the amount of grant aid allocated in each year since 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5212/95]

Excluding assistance provided through schemes administered by local authorities, my Department has provided grant assistance since 1993 to voluntary bodies engaged in the following activities: (a) housing research and other housing related activities; (b) group water schemes; (c) promotion of environmental awareness; and (d) cave and mountain rescue.

In addition, certain miscellaneous bodies, such as the Dublin Civic Trust and the Waterford Civic Trust, have been assisted on an ad hoc basis. Some £2.8 million was expended in 1993 and £2.7 million in 1994. I expect that about £3.5 million will be expended in 1995 by my Department in grants to voluntary bodies.
