Vol. 450 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) School.

Chris Flood

Question:

124 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to ensure that adequate playing pitch facilities are provided to meet the needs of Jobstown Community School. Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5125/95]

My Department has not yet received a proposal from County Dublin Vocational Education Committee regarding the development of playing fields. When a proposal is received it will be considered on its merits having regard to all the circumstances. However, the provision of playing facilities is the responsibility of the school authorities and the cost of providing such facilities has to be met from the schools own resources.

Due to present demands on the available capital resources, for some time priority has been given to the provision of essential teaching spaces. As a result it is not possible in present circumstances to grant-aid the provision of playing pitch facilities at existing schools without such facilities.
