Vol. 450 No. 4

Written Answers. - NCVA Level 2 Certification.

Micheál Martin

Question:

112 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to ensure that industrialists and employers are aware of the NCVA level 2 certification. [5263/95]

The establishment of the National Council for Vocational Awards provided a framework for the active involvement of industry/ employers in programme design and in assessment and certification. The council has two representatives from the Irish Business Employers Confederation in addition to FAS, CERT and Department of Enterprise and Employment interests. Industry representation is provided for on the council's boards of studies and on the panels of external examiners. The council issues publications and a newsletter on a regular basis to educational, training and industrial bodies. Additional publicity takes the form of training for external examiners, launches of awards, presentations to employer interests, a leaflet for employers, a directory and guide to Level 2 awards, and copies of NCVA modules outlining their objectives, expected learning outcomes and method of assessment.

Further publicity measures to raise the profile of the awards are planned for this year. All candidates entered for NCVA awards in 1995 (approx 10,000) will bring the employer's leaflet to the workplace during their placements on work experience.
