Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Group Water Schemes.

Noel Treacy

Question:

92 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for the Environment the reason his Department has not provided funds and plans for the revamping, restructuring, renewing and linking of group water schemes throughout the country, which have been in existence for many years and need upgrading; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5365/95]

Grants are available under the group water scheme programme for the upgrading and renewal of existing group schemes, including the provision of better linkages with public networks. I have recently announced significant increases in grant levels.

My Department also continues to assist the development of larger scale regional water supply schemes designed to replace quality deficient and low capacity public and group water supply schemes.
