Vol. 451 No. 2

Written Answers. - Milk Super-Levy Bill.

Brian Cowen

Question:

115 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the proposals, if any, he has to alleviate the hardship that will befall dairy farmers faced with a milk super-levy bill; the estimated cost of the super-levy to dairy farmers nationally; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6458/95]

In view of the fact that the milk quota year has not yet ended it is not possible at this stage to assess either the level of the final super-levy bill or its effects on dairy farmers. There is some evidence that the situation has improved over the past month or so. Even at this late stage farmers can do much, through feeding milk to calves and other measures, to ensure that the improvement is maintained up to the end of the month.
