Vol. 451 No. 2

Written Answers. - Illegal Growth Promoters.

Ivor Callely

Question:

133 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the amount of angel dust and other illegal growth promoters seized over the last six months; if he has satisfied himself with the prohibition on illegal growth promoters; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6469/95]

During the past six months there have been nine seizures of illegal growth promoters and suspected growth promoters, comprising 0.54 millilitres of liquid hormones, 96 hormone implant cartridges and eight bottles containing small residues of clenbuterol. Analysis is awaited on two kilograms of powder suspected to be clenbuterol and 2.5 litres of liquid suspected to be a hormonal growth promoter. I am satisfied with the prohibition on growth promoters which is motivated by consumer concerns.
