Local authorities provide annual returns to my Department of expenditure incurred during the year on the maintenance and improvement, including public lighting and overheads, of each class of public roads. Copies of the aggregate statistics based on these returns for the period 1984 to 1992, the last year for which full returns are available from local authorities, are being compiled and will be forwarded to the Deputy within a week.
