Vol. 451 No. 2

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants Scheme.

Noel Ahern

Question:

90 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if she will amend the interpretation of the third level grant scheme in relation to courses such as the Masters in Investment Treasury in Dublin City University; if she will sanction grants to students who qualify and satisfy the authorities that they are full-time students and in need of assistance and accept that the fact that some students combine the course with employment should not disbar other students. [6390/95]

Only full-time courses are among those approved by the Minister for Education for the purpose of the higher education grants scheme.

I understand from Dublin City University that the course in question, the Masters in Investment Treasury, is not a full-time course and, consequently, does not come within the terms of the higher education grants scheme. Because of resource constraints I have no plans at present to extend the provisions of the scheme to include part-time courses.
