Vol. 451 No. 2

Written Answers. - Kingscourt (Cavan) School.

Mary Harney

Question:

89 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to build a second level school in Kingscourt, County Cavan, in view of the fact that the building of this school was sanctioned in 1980; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6389/95]

In 1981, approval in principle was given for the provision of a junior cycle vocational school in Kingscourt.

In accordance with standard practice, all aspects of the project have been reviewed on a regular basis by the planning section of my Department, particularly in the context of the most up to date statistics and demographic trends.

Based on the findings of the most recent review of the area, my Department is satisfied that the provision of a second-level school in Kingscourt would not be warranted in the immediate future.

The matter will, however, be kept under review in my Department in the light of the most up to date statistics and demographic trends for the area.
